American (b. 1952)

Alan Gerson is one of the top Magic Realism artists from Louisiana. He lives and works in New Orleans and creates a magical world full of flora, fauna and dreamlike creatures with nuances of mythology and the human condition. Gerson’s work is multi-layered, ironic and technically sophisticated. He sometimes uses a “faux naïve” technique that unites characteristics of the real world with a totally imagined universe. Collectors of note include the New Orleans Museum of Art, the Ogden Museum of Southern Art and the Morris Museum in Augusta, Georgia.
