The opening of Greg Thompson Fine Art was featured in the New Businesses section of Arkansas Business the week of June 22, 2009.
After running a successful private art dealership for 14 years, Greg Thompson decided to take the next step and open an art gallery.
“We just thought it would be a good idea to start up a fine art gallery with business hours, where we could have functions like art openings, wine tastings and lectures on art,” Thompson said. “The art gallery is a way for us to expand our client base and the offerings of the artists we represent to the public and private collector.”
Growing up, Thompson was surrounded by art. His mother was a museum director, and their house was decorated with original artwork. He graduated from Hendrix College in 1990 with an art degree and took classes at the Arkansas Arts Center.
Thompson said that one of the main reasons for opening the gallery was to showcase the work of Arkansas artists.
“We thought it would help take our business to the next level and create a forum for the general public to come view original art from top artists in Arkansas,” he said. “There is so much talent in Arkansas, and there needs to be a place where it can be bought and sold.”
The Greg Thompson Fine Art gallery will not only cater to seasoned art enthusiasts but also beginning collectors.
With a current exhibition space of 3,300 SF, Thompson said he plans to run the business like a New York gallery, with one-man or one-woman shows every other month and a private viewing area for clients.
