American (b. 1950)

Leslie Shiels was born in Cincinnati, Ohio and is a full-time painter. She attended the University of Cincinnati’s College of DAAP and earned her BFA in 1974. She has exhibited in museums across the country including the Butler Institute of American Art and the Gilcrease Museum.  Shiels’ art has a lush and powerful quality with vibrant colors and subject matter that are reminiscent of Modern masters such as Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Gauguin with a Contemporary sensibility. Her work is often subtlety autobiographical with sublime hidden nuances that relate to her life as an artist and the human condition. Collectors of note include the Cincinnati Art Museum in Ohio, the Huntington Museum of Art in West Virginia and the Alexandria Museum of Art in Louisiana.
